The Competition Company is comprised of competition lines that are designed for advanced dancers looking to further expand their dance experience. These groups perform challenging dance numbers at community events, attend dance conventions, perform at all Kay Michael Lee recitals, and compete in statewide, regional, and national dance competitions. Competition lines are not solely based on age, they are based on skills of the dancer.

• The Competition Lines (ages 5-18) are designed for advanced dancers looking to further expand their dance experiences. These groups perform challenging dance numbers at community events, attend dance conventions, perform at all Kay Michael Lee recitals, and compete in statewide, regional, and national dance competitions.

• Dancers ages 8-18 are invited to audition for a place on one of our three competition lines: Diamond, Ruby, and Emeralds.

• Dancers ages 5-7 are invited to sign up for our Precious Gems line, which does not require an audition. This program gives beginner dancers ages 5-7 a chance to compete at 2 competitions per year & perform at community events with a lower commitment level compared to our Diamond, Ruby, & Emerald Competition Lines. The Precious Gems go through an “audition” process on the first day of class, but everyone is accepted onto this line.

Audition Process

Company members ages 8-18 are selected through an audition process. For dancers interested in auditioning for the 2020-2021 Competition Company, auditions will be held on June 29 and August 20. Only dancers who audition in June can challenge their results at the August audition.

AUDITION 1: June 29, ages 8-12 4:00pm, ages 13+ 5:30pm: We are now offering video auditions for our Competition Company in case you cannot attend this first audition opportunity! Contact us for more information; all video submissions will be due June 30. Results from June 29 audition can be challenged at the Aug. 20 audition.

AUDITION 2: August 20, ages 8+ 6:15pm: Results from June 29 audition can be challenged at this audition.

Dancers ages 5-7 do not audition for the Precious Gems line. Please contact the studio to sign up for this opportunity.

Cost

The tuition for competition lines is a flat rate (please check back for further information) for the entire 2020-2021 dance year (September–May). Additional costs do exist for each line. 

Expectations

Each member is required to attend the competition practice, one (1) ballet class, one (1) jazz class, and one (1) genre of their choice. Please Contact us for more information on Competition Company expectations.
